Materials:
2 yards of white worsted weight yarn
10 yards of red or color of your choice; worsted weight
Size 7 needles
2 stitch holders
Sewing needle
Instruction:
Starting with white yarn cast on 20 stitches. Knit across for 2 rows. Cut white yarn and join main color. Work in stockinette stitch for 8 rows. (end on purl row)
Divide for top of foot section: Knit across 7 stitches, place these on a holder. Knit next 6 stitches, and then place last 7 stitches on another holder. Purl back on the center 6 sts. Work in stockinette st on the center 6 stitches for a total of 8 rows. (end on knit row)
Slip stitches from left side of sock back onto needle. With knit side facing you pick up and knit 4 stitches along instep of center piece just knitted. Then knit the 7 stitches on needle. Turn work and purl along the stitches just knitted (17 stitches total). Place remaining 7 stitches on holder onto needle. Now pick up 4 more stitches along instep, and purl remaining 7 stitches. Knit across all 28 stitches. Work in stockinette st for 5 rows.
Bottom decrease: Knit 2 together, K 8; K 2 tog; K 4 sts; K 2 tog; K 8 sts; K 2 tog. Bind off in Purl st.
Finishing: Sew bottom and back seam of sock. Weave in and trim any yarn ends. If desired, crochet a chain to make a loop of yarn at top seam for hanging. These ornaments can be used for package trims, tree trims, lapel pins, or mini gift holders for jewelry, coins, candy, or gift cards!
Approximate size: 4 inches long x 3 inches wide.
