  Yarn Ball WindersYarn ball winders are used to transform hanks of yarn into ready to use balls of center pull yarn for non-tangling enjoyment, while knitting. You start by securing the tail end of your skein at the top of the spindle before winding to create a ball that can be used from the center. After turning the handle you will form the ball and then remove the ball from the winder. You will see a large open core in the center, designed to prevent your yarn being wound too tightly. (You don’t want to take away the elasticity of your yarn, by winding too tightly.) Yarn ball winders are made to save you time and frustration of winding the balls yourself. You should be able to wind a 50 yard ball in less than a minute, while if you wind your yarn by hand it would take you about 10 minutes per skein.
